Watkins, Kari
My name is Kari Watkins. I am a small-town cowgirl from High River, Alberta who had a dream of living by the ocean someday. In 1996 I got my chance and moved to Port McNeill with my daughter. My dream was further answered when I found myself working with Stubbs Island Whale Watching in Telegraph Cove. Walking down the boardwalk in the mornings I could not help but smile as I realized that I had made it! Over the next few years I was fortunate to work within the tourism industry eventually landing at the Port Hardy Visitor Centre. I moved to Port Hardy in 2007 after my daughter graduated from high school.
My photography interest started after a trip to Haida Gwaii in 2008. I had this neat shot I had taken, quite by accident. Friends encouraged me to print it and put it on a card for sale. I thought they were all daft, but went ahead and tried it. Imagine my surprise when people purchased the cards. This totally piqued my interest and thus a budding nature photographer was born.
My photography is my way of relaxing, whether I am out on a shoot or at home designing cards. I am blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world where there are wonders just waiting to be found every day.
