Murphy, Ian
About

Ian Murphy builds free-form laminated bentwood sculptures in his workshop in Campbell River, BC. He grew up on the west coast fishing, hunting and generally spending time outside and this lifetime of natural observation is central to the ideas and shapes that he creates with wood. Most of his work is abstract, with forms similar to kelp, waves, landscapes, and other natural features. The exception are his wildlife sculptures (deer, elk, goat, sheep, fish, etc) that are laminated interpretations of large north american game. These wildlife pieces are meant to symbolize the traditional "wall mount" without the fur or scales.
